Reverend Michael J. Kloton (former pastor)
Reverend Michael J. Kloton was born in Tamaqua, Pa and raised in the Philadelphia area. He is a 1975 graduate of St. James High School in Chester, PA. He received a BS Degree from the University of Scranton in 1980. He was awarded a Masters of Divinity Dgree from Christ the King Seminary in 1987 and was ordained to the preisthood for the Diocese of Scranton in that same year. Fr. Kloton also received a Masters Degree in Education from Boston College and is a certified Secondary Principal for the State of Pennsylvania.
Fr. Mike was first stationed in Williamsport, PA as Chaplain to Divine Providence Hospital, Assistant Pastor at St. Boniface Church an adjunct faculty at Bishop Newman High School. In 1988 he was transferred to St. Matthew's Parish in East Stroudsburg and appointed Director of Religious Education at Notre Dame High School. The following year he moved to St. Gabirel's Church in Hazleton and became Director of Religious Education at Bishop Hafey High School. In 1991 he was transferred to Bishop O'Reilly High School in Kingston, Pa where he was named Assistant Principal and Director of Religious Education. In 1998 Fr. Kloton was named Administrator of the Church of St. Joseph's in Hudson while continuing his duties at Bishop O'Reilly. In 1999 he was transferred to Tobyhanna and named pastor of the Church of St. Ann. Fr. Kloton has served on the faculty of Boston College, and the Pastoral Formation Institute for the Diocese of Scranton. In 2001 Fr. Kloton was appointed Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies for the Diocese of Scranton.
Over the past 10 years, Fr. Kloton has traveled extensively to many Third World countries including Haiti, Kenya, Tanzania, Mexico, El Salvador and Ghana. These trips include High School students and seminarians. It gave them an opportunity to experience life outside of the United States. He also traveled throughout the United States as a fundraiser for Hands Togehter - a non-profit Catholic-based organization in Haiti that helps educate children, feed the hungry and provide medical care to thousands.
In addtion to serving as Pastor, Fr. Kloton was recently appointed as Chaplain for the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department. He is also Chaplain for the Blue Knights, a motorcycle club made up of police officers. In addition, Fr. Kloton is Chaplain for several other motorcycle groups. He is an active participant inthe local Scouting program and is a merit badge counselor for several merit badges. He also serves as Catholic Chaplain for the Monroe County Correctional Facility and the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Fr. Mike's hobbies include Scuba Diving, Motorcycle riding, Camping and horseback riding. He is an FAA licensed pilot.
